Common Questions

  • I have the Classic Edition, but why didn’t you just sell me the Enterpise Edition in the first place?

We treat each sell independently based on the client's needs at that time. Chances are the Enterprise Edition was not available, or the Classic Edition was the best fit for your company at the time of the original purchase.

  • Will I need to learn new software?

Absolutely not! The Enterprise Edition is nearly identical in look & feel to the Classic Edition. You will feel right at home when use the Enterprise Edition for the first time.

  • Why change? We like what we have?

As time goes on technology improves. In order for us to keep up with the latest advancements we must focus our efforts on the most open-ended avenues, and the Enterprise Edition with SQL Server serves as a testament to this way of thinking.

  • What is the big difference in this new version?

Mostly speed, reliability and additional "behind-the-scenes" enhancements. Other than that there are a few new features such as Item Assemblies, Custom Reports and Escrow Service Agreements. Most of all it is the only version that will continue being developed after the End of Life cycle is complete.

  • What is SQL Server? How much is it?

SQL Server is a Microsoft technology (or more specifically, a "Database Engine") that hosts, formats and indexes data so it can be searched and retrieved faster. The configurations available when using SQL Server are more expansive than those available with other database solutions. The cost starts at $0 with the Express Edition, and is provided with the Enterprise Edition setup materials.

  • Do we need to buy a new server?

Maybe. The SQL Server Database Engine can be installed on any computer in your office that is running Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) or above. However, it is recommended that you use a dedicated computer to host the database, or in other words a computer that does not have anyone working on it regularly. In most cases, the Enterprise Edition will fit perfectly into your current computer and network configuration.

  • Will our current computers (workstations) work?

Yes, if you are running the Classic Edition your computer will be capable of running the Enterprise Workstation software.

  • Will we lose any of our information? Is it like the QuickBooks® conversion?

No data will be lost. The Classic to Enterprise database conversion process is actually performed by you, in your office, using our Enterprise Server Utility. This can be done at your convenience, whenever you'd like.
